Notes
Variations - (Pathanthara)
2 – karmamunaku – dharmamunaku – cittamunaku – vittamunaku – these words are given differently in different books. Therefore, these have been adopted uniformly.
3 – taginaTlu – taginaTTu.
6 – satya rUpa – satva rUpa.
7 – sannuti jEsi – sannuti jEyu’ : ‘sannuti jEsi’ seems to be more appropriate here.

Comments
1 – kannavAri paini – In some books, this has been translated to as ‘parents’. This word means ‘parents’ and ‘anybody and everybody’. It is possible that SrI tyAgarAja means ‘the Lord’ - as parent. Normally, SrI tyAgarAja amplifies his anupallavi statements in caraNa(s). But, in this kRti, there is no such amplification. Therefore, either meaning may be taken.
4 – siddhi – This word may mean ‘accomplishment’ in general terms or ‘Spiritual accomplishments’ with specific reference to Eight-fold siddhis. However, tyAgarAja does not commend such (eight-fold) siddhis as they are hindrance to emancipation. Please refer to kRti ‘kshINamai’ rAga mukhAri (tiruga janmincu siddhi mAnurA – desist from the siddhis which entail re-birth).
5 – vittamunaku taginaTlu vEDuka naDucunu – In one book, this has been translated as ‘the success of entertainments will be commensurate with the money spent’.
